Napali Coast Engagement

So, you’re ready to ask one of the biggest questions of your life and want it to be a perfect surprise, a moment of epic proportions they will never forget. You also happen to have booked a legendary Nāpali Sunset Dinner Tour aboard Holo Holo Charters with your special someone, closest family, and friends.

Um, wait a second here. As in, stop what you are doing and hear me out. You are about to dream into reality a surprise engagement of ridiculous beauty and magic, the kind of stuff dreams are made of.

What if you, yes YOU, pop the question aboard Holo Holo?

Picture it now: the crew is on standby and ready to support you, your special someone is aglow by your side in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, the sun is shining bright as the blues of the Pacific reflect rainbow mist in the air around you, and the majestic Nāpali Coast cradles you both in unbelievable splendor. Love is literally in the air and yours for the taking. Or for the asking, I should say.

Getting engaged aboard Holo Holo Charters is one of the most romantic, out-of-this-world ways to propose, and it happens more often than you think.

But make no mistake; this is not a run-of-the-mill, ordinary experience, no matter how often it happens. EVERY single time is unique, magical, and extraordinary. Trust me when I say this, my friend, is the perfect surprise engagement you’ve been searching for.

I reached out to Cinzia Bruno (CB), one of our stellar boat crew members on our sailing catamaran, Leila, to hear more about surprise engagements aboard Holo Holo. Read on for an insider’s view, and please contact our reservation team, who can assist you with any questions. We are here to support you as you plan this monumental moment, the start of your forever life with your soon-to-be fiancé (or fiancée).

1. Walk us through a surprise engagement aboard Holo Holo’s Charters.

CB: Just last week, a group of friends traveling from Mexico had a proposal on the boat! There were about eight of them, and early on in the trip, one of the guys told the captain in private that he was hoping to propose to his girlfriend.

We suggested the perfect time, right in front of Kalalau, and it worked! As a crew member, I subtly shifted the other passengers away from that side of the boat and inconspicuously posed with my camera ready. I took a picture of the engagement as it happened and sent it to them afterward! She was floored, absolutely loved it, and said yes.

2. Do you recommend someone set up the surprise engagement with Holo Holo beforehand?

CB: I absolutely recommend that anyone looking to propose checks in with the captain or crew! They can help guide you when and where to make the proposal based on conditions and backdrop. We love to help make your boat trip (and engagement) special!

Also, we always have a champagne toast at sunset, which is a great time for the newly engaged couple to celebrate one another.

3. What do you find most special about surprise engagements aboard Holo Holo?

CB: There is no more beautiful place on Earth than the Nāpali Coast. What better way to celebrate your love than there? You can always look back on the location and remember how you felt. My husband is a Captain on the boat, and when we got married, we had a paint-by-number picture of Kalalau because it is such a special place for us and a big part of our story.

4. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

CB: Many times, people have explained that they want to propose, and many times, people have gotten seasick. Don’t get so stuck on your plan that you propose on the boat to your seasick girlfriend. It seems obvious, but we have seen it over and over again. Be flexible, try to make it special, and don’t be afraid to “abandon ship,” metaphorically speaking, if either of you is not feeling well.

Lastly, don’t drop the ring! The boat is moving, it’s wet, and that ring is probably expensive. Maybe wait to put it on until you are safely in the cabin. Many people find their rings to be slightly too big before they can get them resized. Play it safe and leave it in the box until after the trip if the ring feels a bit loose.

5. I just have to ask, has anyone ever said no?

CB: I’ve never seen anyone say no, but I have seen a couple of awkward proposals where one of them clearly wasn’t into the idea of a big public proposal. Make sure that’s their style!
